Tap into a US $400bn infrastructure projects plan

Egypt is located on the main trade route between Asia and Europe and has rich natural resources.

The country is in the process of developing its infrastructure capable of taking full advantage of its riches with new energy and transport systems, and handling the rapid growing population.

The government has identified infrastructure as a top priority.

Upcoming infrastructure projects in Egypt

Monorail connecting new cities to Cairo

Monorail project, one of Egypt’s key infrastructure developments, is nearing completion. The New Administrative Capital Monorail (56.5 km, 22 stations) is in trial operations and opens mid-year. Driverless and equipped with advanced safety systems, it will carry 600,000 passengers daily, cutting travel time, reducing emissions, and easing congestion. With modern amenities and an 80 km/h speed, it will transform transport and boost economic growth.

Bahr El-Baqar wastewater treatment plant

Bahr El-Baqar station in North Sinai, the world's largest of its kind, treats 5.6 million cubic meters of water daily. Listed in Guinness World Records, it reduces agricultural drainage salinity, prevents seawater intrusion, and helps reclaim 400,000+ acres. It also plays a vital role in saving Lake Manzala from pollution and restoring marine life.

Dairut Barrages project

The project aims to modernize irrigation across 1.6 million feddans in five governorates (Assiut, Minya, Beni Suef, Fayoum, and Giza) by upgrading structures, enhancing water control, and building an overhead bridge. Minister Hani Sewilam met with Japanese Ambassador Fumio Iwai to strengthen water management ties, highlighting the Dirout Barrages Project (63% complete). Discussions covered irrigation improvements, AI in water management, and global water issues, continuing their 2023 UN Water Conference cooperation.

Al-Hamam wastewater treatment plant

A seawater desalination plant in El-Hamam (190,000 m³/day) will use solar energy to supply New Alamein City, serving over 1.5 million people. A wastewater treatment plant (6 million m³/day) is also under construction, using a 120 km watercourse to reclaim 500,000 acres in western Delta. The plan includes desalination plants with a total capacity of 10 million m³/day to address water shortages.
